The Week from Hell in the Financial Markets
(10/6/2008 to 10/10/2008)
Summary: On the hells of a variety of failures in the US financial system, the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped over 2,000 points and over 20% of it's value during the week of October 6th to October 10th. It was the worst week for the Dow in over 100 years! The first day in this "week from hell" saw the Dow drop over 782 points, and to its lowest level in over 5 years. The bad week in the markets perpetuated the belief that the market would continue to suffer into a recession, and confirmed the belief that consumer confidence in the economy was at an all-time low. |
